Hautes Alpes

The Hautes Alpes department where the Grand Hotel Serre Chevalier is situated lies on the border with Italy. The capital is GAP while closer to the Grand Hotel is Briançon an official sub-prefecture. The department is part of the greater Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region which has also has a border on the Mediterranean.

Local cuisine includes the famous Raclette cheese which is tradtionally grilled and served with potatoes and cured ham. The Restaurant Grand Hotel Café located close Luc Alphand Ski slope is well known for its local cuisine. Reserve your table in advance.

 

 Over one third of the department lies above 2000m while the average altitude is 1000m making it the most mountainous region in France.

 

Tourism is the main industry in the department with both winter and summer sports being popular activities. Ski lifts pepper the slopes and run through the summer for walkers and cyclists to avail of. 

 

The Ski Lifts located closed to Le Grand Hotel de Serre Chevalier run through Winter and Summer season allowing walkers, cyclists to appreciate mountain fresh and relaxing air.
